Taylor police said Rockwood man nearly beaten to a pulp after firing shots inside bar – The News Herald

Taylor police said a Rockwood man was left a “bloody mess” at a bar after he was punched in the face and pulled a gun.

The incident took place at Rick’s Half Time Bar, 20942 Ecorse Road, at about 10 p.m. on March 9.

According to police, the Rockwood man was at the pool table with another patron when a heated confrontation broke out.

According to Taylor Police Lt. Frank Canning, the Rockwood resident pulled his gun and fired about four shots into the ground.

The man told police they were warning shots.

Canning said a couple of patrons jumped the resident and nearly beat him to a pulp.

He was disarmed and the gun was tossed behind the bar.

“When police arrived everyone involved had left, except for the man who was beaten up,” Canning said. “He was a CPL holder, but he was intoxicated and in a bar. Those guys really gave it to him.”

The resident was transported to a nearby hospital with lacerations to his face.

Canning said he required numerous stitches and he had black eyes, but is expected to make a full recovery.

The gun was retrieved by officers.

Video surveillance footage was provided to police on Thursday.

Canning said an initial account of the story was that the Rockwood man left the bar and went to his vehicle to retrieve his weapon, but the footage shows that did not happen.

Police are in the process of looking over the surveillance footage to identify the men involved in the beating.
