New Concept Mining Launches Hard-Rock Drill Manufacturing Plant in South Africa

Mining company New Concept Mining powered by Epiroc (NCM) has launched a new Hydraulic Rock Drill (HRD) manufacturing plant in Aeroton, Johannesburg South Africa.

The plant is expected to produce about 12 HRDs per day, with the potential to scale production up to 100 units per day.

Poised to enhance drilling efficiency and safety, the HRD product development will progress in three phases, with the first phase set to involve local assembly and servicing. The second phase will involve reducing compressed air reliance and digital features while the third phase will involve battery development and efficiency.

NCM parent company Epiroc has also installed a 1.3 MW solar power system at the facility, with plans to expand and add battery backup.

Amid first LNG exports and revitalized oil production, the Republic of Congo will host the inaugural forum on March 25-26, 2025, hosted by the Ministry of Hydrocarbons.

This year’s MSGBC 2024 conference will feature a panel session examining the impact of recent discoveries in the region and how they will lead to the establishment of a regional production hub in West Africa.

The continent features major demand for investment in exploration and geological surveys, mining and extraction technologies, refining capacity, infrastructure development and ESG standards.
